How much does a communion cake cost in Ireland?

A communion cake can be a ready-designed cake from a bakery or a one-off design from a custom cake maker. Bakeries publish their prices, so they are the easiest place to start. These are the prices listed online, checked on 7 November 2026.

Bakery prices

So on these lists a communion cake from a bakery costs €45 to just under €80.

Mannings has collection points in Thomas Street (Dublin 8), Tallaght and Blanchardstown. Both Mannings cakes showed as sold out when we checked in November, most likely because it is outside communion season, so check again in spring.

How many portions do you need?

Mannings says its 10 inch cake serves approximately 12 to 17 portions. The listing for its large cake gives two different sizes on the same page, so ask the bakery to confirm the size and portions before you order.

For a party bigger than about 17 people, you will need the larger size, a second cake, or cupcakes alongside.

Bakery or custom cake?

• Bakery cakes have a fixed design and price, and you order from a list. Good for a set budget.
• Custom cakes are designed around a theme, a name or the outfit colours. Custom makers usually quote per design, so ask for a price in writing with the size and number of portions.

Questions to ask

• How far ahead do you need the order during May?
• Is it collection only, or can you deliver?
• Can you add the child's name, and is there a charge?
• Can you cater for allergies?

Prices are as listed on each bakery's website on 7 November 2026. Communion ranges are often updated in spring, so confirm the price when you order.
